Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, also known as PM&R, focuses on diagnosing, treating, and managing conditions that affect movement, function, pain, and quality of life. The department supports patients with acute and chronic musculoskeletal, neurological, sports-related, and functional conditions through a personalized, non-surgical, and multidisciplinary approach.
At Adria Medical Center, care may include medical assessment, diagnostic ultrasound, medication management, rehabilitation therapy planning, assistive devices, orthotics, mobility aids, and ultrasound-guided procedures when appropriate.
Patients above the age of 16 years can be evaluated and managed for all aspects of clinical care. Patients aged 10 years and above may be seen for focal spasticity management, often including ultrasound-guided botulinum toxin injections when clinically indicated.
Our PM&R team evaluates and manages a wide range of conditions affecting muscles, joints, nerves, movement, pain, and daily function.
Each treatment plan begins with a detailed medical assessment to understand the source of pain, movement limitation, or functional difficulty. The goal is to support recovery, reduce pain, improve mobility, and help patients return to daily life, work, sport, and independence.
Ultrasound guidance allows the specialist to visualize the target area in real time. This helps guide procedures more precisely around joints, tendons, muscles, nerves, and soft tissues.
All procedures are performed only after specialist assessment and when clinically appropriate.
The department may offer ultrasound-guided regenerative procedures when clinically appropriate and approved, including dextrose prolotherapy, autologous whole blood, autologous plasma, platelet-rich plasma, hyaluronic acid, and other approved regenerative options. Availability depends on clinical indication, physician assessment, and local regulatory approval.
Recovery often requires more than one type of treatment. The PM&R Department works closely with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, nurses, orthotics specialists, and other healthcare professionals to create a coordinated rehabilitation plan.
This approach helps patients receive the right care at the right stage of recovery — whether the goal is pain relief, improved mobility, return to sport, better independence, or long-term functional improvement
